FIND A PLACE TO RECYCLE UNWANTED THINGS

We often hear about the 3 Rs: REDUCE, RE-USE, RECYCLE.  What about the other 5, making 8 Rs altogether?
Before you recycle first think if there is another use for the thing: re-use it yourself, give it to someone else, or to a charity.  And what about REFUSE - don't acquire it in the first place? Or REPAIR - can you or someone else mend it?  or ROT - compost it?  Or even fREEZE for leftover (edible) food or RE-IMAGINE (think of another way to do something with it without causing waste).

Compost: If you have plant waste and have nowhere to compost it, take it to Inham Nook Allotments, or may be ask a neighbour.  Or compost it with Beeston Growers.  Or learn how to make a wormery at the Nottingham-based Urban Worm.

IF ANYTHING IS STILL USABLE, PLEASE TRY TO RE-USE IT YOURSELF, GIVE IT TO SOMEONE ELSE, OR DONATE IT TO A CHARITY SHOP.

DANGER: Did you know that if used batteries are thrown away in the general waste or mixed with recyclable materials like card, metals and plastics, it can be very dangerous? They can catch fire.
Find out about how batteries can cause fire
Green Bin: Now more things can go in your Green bin from 31 March 2026 - see under individual items or end of this page.

Grey bin: If you live in Broxtowe, Gedling or Rushcliffe, your waste is taken to the Eastcroft Energy from Waste Facility in Nottingham.  The heat from the burned waste is used in the district heating scheme in the city.

Green bin: In Broxtowe things that can't be recycled will be incinerated.  BUT PLEASE NOTE THAT ITEMS COVERED IN FOOD ETC. (such as pizza boxes) MAY CAUSE A WHOLE LOAD OF MATERIAL TO BE CONTAMINATED AND THEN IT CANNOT BE RECYCLED.
